The short answer
Stripchat is a legitimate, heavily used service. In the EU it is designated a very large online platform under the Digital Services Act, which brings extra transparency duties, and it publishes DSA transparency reports. The risks for you are mostly about money and data: refunds are limited, auto-refill can charge you several times a day if you turn it on, and the company has had one serious data exposure.
Bottom line: use a separate email, turn on two-factor authentication, keep auto-refill off, complain within 48 hours if a show goes wrong, and never file a chargeback for a purchase you actually made.
Who runs Stripchat
The terms and privacy policy name Technius Ltd, a company registered in Cyprus under number HE349515. Cyprus law governs the terms, Cyprus courts have exclusive jurisdiction and arbitration is seated in Cyprus. The same name appears on many card statements (see below).
The October 2026 EU court ruling
On October 14, 2026, the EU General Court (case T-134/24, Technius v Commission) dismissed Technius’s challenge to Stripchat’s designation as a very large online platform under the Digital Services Act. The case was only about that designation, based on user numbers. It was not a ruling on content, minors or fines, and it can still be appealed to the Court of Justice.
The 2021 data exposure
In November 2021, Comparitech’s security team found a Stripchat database left online without a password. It held about 200 million records, including around 65 million user records (emails, usernames, IP addresses and tip balances), about 421,000 model records, roughly 134 million token transactions and around 719,000 chat messages. Comparitech reported it on November 5 and it was secured on November 7, 2021. Stripchat later acknowledged a breach incident. There is no public evidence that criminals exploited the data, but it is a good reason to use a dedicated email and a unique password.
What the privacy policy says
- Age checks: Stripchat shares data with age-verification providers that process it in real time; the policy says Stripchat does not access that data.
- Selling data: the policy states it has never sold and will never sell personal data.
- Retention: data is kept “only for as long as necessary”, and may be kept longer for legal, regulatory or technical reasons. No fixed retention period is given.
- Deletion: you can delete your account in Settings and Privacy, or ask for erasure at [email protected]. See how to delete a Stripchat account.
Billing and your bank statement
The charge does not say “Stripchat”. Stripchat’s support page lists descriptors that depend on the payment provider, such as EPOCH.COM*Technius, SegpayEU.com-TechChat, centrobill.com, Webbilling*Technius Ltd and Technius Ltd. That list dates from 2023, so the exact line you see may differ. Full details in what shows on your bank statement.
Refunds and chargebacks
Under the refund policy, complaints must arrive within 48 hours, private shows longer than five minutes do not qualify for a full refund, and tips and spy shows are not refundable. The terms add that if you report a charge as unauthorized without good faith, you remain liable for it plus a $100 administrative fee. See Stripchat refunds.
Age checks in the UK and elsewhere
Stripchat requires users to be 18 or the local age of majority. In June 2025, Ofcom said that major providers, Stripchat among them, had agreed to introduce “highly effective” age checks for UK users before July 25, 2025; accepted methods include credit card checks, open banking and facial age estimation. Which method you will see today is not stated in Stripchat’s own pages. In the US, several states require age verification and availability can vary by state.
A five-minute safety checklist
- Use an email you keep only for this, and a username that does not identify you.
- Turn on two-factor authentication in your settings.
- Leave Balance Auto-Refill off; with cards and PayPal it can charge up to four times in 24 hours.
- If a show goes wrong, leave at once and contact support within 48 hours.
- Check your statement for the descriptors above, and talk to support before your bank.
